Notes on “What Are You Fighting For?”

Dear Church Family,
Happy New Year to each of you! I wanted to send you the completion of my “What Are You Fighting For” message this past Sunday morning.
Three Battles You Will Face This Year …
1. The Battle Between Selfishness and Unselfishness 2. The Battle Between Forgiveness and Bitterness – Hebrews 12:15; Ephesians 4:26; Matthew 7:2; Romans 8:37 3. The Battle Between What is Easy and What is Right – Galatians 5:17; Galatians 6:9
Big thoughts under this section were as follows:
You cannot control what people do to you. But you can control your response. When you get bitter over a hurt, the bitterness is always worse than the hurt itself. Don’t stay angry. Get over it quickly. When we let God take a hurt and turn it into something good, we become MORE than a conqueror. Our battle is often short-term pleasure versus long-term growth and maturity.
I encourage you, at this point, to read 2 Corinthians 10:3-4.
There are weapons available only to believers in Jesus – that we can use in our battles. Here are three major weapons that we can use in 2018!
1. FAITH – We get faith from GOD’S WORD. Ephesians 6:16-17; Romans 10:17 2. SUPPORT – We get support from GOD’S PEOPLE. Philippians 1:30; Hebrews 10:25; Ecclesiastes 4:12 3. POWER – We get power from GOD’S SPIRIT. 1 John 4:4; Psalm 44:3; Ephesians 6:13; 1 John 5:4-5
Make this verse your goal in life – “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith!” (2 Timothy 4:7)
My prayer for each of you, as your spiritual player-coach, is to be able to say at the end of your life: “I didn’t run from the fight; I didn’t forfeit the fight; I didn’t chicken out in the fight; I didn’t give up on the fight; I didn’t dilute the faith; I didn’t compromise the faith; I FINISHED THE RACE AND KEPT THE FAITH AND FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!
Three New Year’s Resolutions Emerge From This Bible Study – Here they are:
1. Spend more time in God’s Word – This is where you get your FAITH. 2. Spend more time with God’s People – This is where you get your SUPPORT. 3. Spend more time trusting in God’s Spirit – This is where you get your POWER.
Love you guys! This New Year – Let’s fight the good fight of the faith!!
