I’m really looking forward to our Bible study time tonight. Join us for dinner at 6:00 PM and then for Bible study at 6:30 PM. We will study scriptures that present Jesus as fully God and fully human, which is an incredible truth. But then, we will consider what Jesus has done on our behalf to accomplish our salvation.
Read these verses:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” – Luke 4:18-19.
On the surface, Jesus’ words seem to focus primarily on social issues – good news for the poor, freedom for the captives, sight for the blind, and relief for the oppressed. And it’s certainly true that Jesus’ ministry in the world has accomplished these goals throughout Christian history.
However, it is vital to understand that Jesus had a deeper meaning in mind. The people of Jesus’ day believed the Messiah would restore the glory of Israel in a blaze of military and political power.
Yet Jesus knew that His mission was primarily spiritual. He came to proclaim the good news of redemption, to free all people from our captivity to sin, to heal our spiritual blindness, and to set us free from the oppression of our own flesh!!
Take a few minutes to praise Him and thank Him that Jesus really did come to accomplish our salvation!!!!
Hope to see you tonight!!
