This week we are celebrating the fact that we can have the assurance of being forgiven.
The basis of such assurance is our faith in Christ – our reliance upon Him – our absolute confidence in Him – and our surrender of our hearts to Him.
Upon the faith-embracement of Jesus, the Bible assures us that our sins have been removed “as far as the east is from the west.” (Psalm 103:12)
This verse is a part of a group of verses (Psalm 103:7-12) that form a unit of verses that focuses on God’s forgiveness of His sinning children.
The phrase “as far as the east is from the west” means that our sins have been removed into an infinite space – so far removed that it is impossible to measure.
East is in one direction. West is in the other direction. This is different from north and south – one can travel north only so far (to the geographic north pole) before being forced to travel south; thus, north and south meet at the poles.
But east and west never meet. No matter how far you travel east, you will never reach a point at which your next step must be westward.
Therefore, God in His wisdom, did not say, “Your sins are removed as far as north is from the south.” Rather, God said, “I have removed your sins as far as the east is from the west.”
Carry this thought today – IN JESUS MY SINS ARE GONE – TOTALLY GONE!!
